Lace ‘em up Running Club Needs You!

Lace ‘em up is a running club established at Brown Elementary School as a way to promote regular exercise as part of an active lifestyle for our kids.

The kids are invited to run or walk around a designated course on campus.  This happens every Tuesday and Thursday, during the last recess, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m.  Incentive awards are earned as the students reach mileage goals.

This program is run and funded completely by volunteers and donors.  In order to keep this valuable program up & running, we are asking for volunteers to come to the running course to punch mileage cards, run with the kids and offer encouragement.

Please contact us via e-mail at: contact@laceemup.org and let us know what you can do to help.  Or just show up!  Looking forward to seeing you on the course!

Lace ‘Em Up Jog-A-Thon

Thanks for signing up for the Brown Elementary School Lace ‘Em Up Jog-A-Thon!  Here’s how it will work.

Red and Green  tracks will race on Thursday, June 16th.  The kindergarten classes will run for 10 minutes.  All other classes will run for 15 minutes.  Morning kinder classes and all first grade classes will come to the park to the south of Brown School at 9:15.  Starting at 9:20am, the kinders will run while the first graders cheer them on.  When the kinders finish,  they will cheer on the first graders who will start at about 9:35.  At 10:00 all second and third graders will come out to the park.  The second graders will start their race at about 10:05.  When they finish the third graders will start running.  They should start about 10:20.  Then it will be time for the fourth and fifth graders to arrive at the park at 10:45.  Fourth graders should expect to start running at 10:50.  Fifth graders will start about 11:05.  At 12:30, afternoon kinders will arrive at the park and be ready to run by 12:35.   I’ve given these specific times so you know what time to be at the park to run with your child.  Relatives are welcome to run for a $5.00 donation.   Remember all money raised helps buy incentives for the kids for next year’s Lace ‘Em Up program.   Every child will be given a donut hole thanks to a generous donation by Doughboys Donuts.

Every student will be given a wrist band before they start racing.  Volunteers will be marking the bands each time the child completes one lap.  The boy and girl  who run the most laps in the allotted amount of time will win a pizza party with Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Akers on Friday June 17th.  One boy and one girl will be awarded from each grade.

The kids are ready for this challenge.  They’ve been running every Tuesday and Thursday during the 2pm Lace ‘Em Up recess.  All total, the kids ran more than 10,800 miles during this school year!  Please congratulate your child for making a commitment to living a healthier lifestyle.  And please support your child by running with him/her during our Lace ‘Em Up Jog-A-Thon.

Run for Education

Kids from all over Washoe County participated in the Run for Education where money goes directly back into the schools.  Lace ‘Em Up Running Club is a great way to train for races like this.
